SUNFLOWERS (1878) – is the title of two series of still life paintings. The first series, executed in Paris in 1887 Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) – Handmade in Austria – wood from sustainable cultivation
Like other painters of the time, Vincent painted still lifes of flowers. But he did it a little differently. After practicing with various flowers, he decided on one particular variety: the sunflower. His fellow painters thought that sunflowers might be a bit rough and crude. But that’s exactly what Vincent liked, and he also liked to paint flowers that had faded. He gave sunflowers the starring role in several paintings. Vincent knew that his sunflower paintings were special. Other people knew that too.
