The Scream (1893) is the best-known motif of the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944) and part of his so-called life frieze. It exemplifies how Munch turned external nature into a mirror of his inner experience in his works and is considered by some to be the beginning of the Expressionist style. The work is exhibited in the National Gallery and Munch Museum in Oslo.
